Weatherzone meteorologist Joel Pippard said it had been a long time since the temperature had been so low in Bathurst.
“It was minus 8.1 degrees [Sunday] morning and that is the coldest since 2006 of any month, and it looks like that is the coldest in July since 1971,” he said.
The morning did not get much better for residents, with the temperature not exceeding zero degrees until around 10.20am.
Mr Pippard said it was possible that similar or even colder temperatures could be seen on Monday as the forecast, of a minimum of -5 degrees, was the same as Sunday.
“[Sunday] is drier which means it it technically more likely [to be colder], but only just,” he said.
Bathurst’s monthly rainfall remains well below the long-term average and is unlikely to get a boost until late in the week.
There is a 60 per cent chance of up to five millimetres on Thursday, followed by a 70 per cent chance of between five and 10mm on Friday.
