Parade was driving through the Mountains to Sydney over the weekend when a bed sheet hanging from one of the pedestrian overpasses caught his eye.
Painted on the sheet was a single word, “Lauren”.
That was certainly unusual, but Parade thought little of it until he reached the next overpass that had another bed sheet, this time with the word “will”.
Sure enough, the next overpass had another sheet which carried the word “you”, and by this stage Parade thought he had a pretty good idea what was happening.
Parade was still wondering whether Lauren would be impressed by such a marriage proposal when he spotted another overpass and another sheet ahead.
The bubble was burst, however, as Parade drew closer, only to find the final sheet carried the message “pick up some milk”.
We can only hope Lauren has a good sense of humour (and maybe some milk).
Pick a favourite for choir classic
THE next PUBlic Choir at The George Hotel is still a week away, but Mitchell Conservatorium is doing things a little differently this month.
The monthly choir event has proven to be a real hit since it kicked off in March, with good crowds gathering in the front bar of the pub to be led in the singing of an old favourite by conservatorium executive director Graham Sattler.
The songs featured so far include The Beatles’ Hey Jude and Hunters and Collectors’ Throw Your Arms Around Me, but this month would-be choristers have the chance to have a say in what song will be chosen.
Mitchell Conservatorium is running a poll on its Facebook page asking whether next week’s featured number should be INXS’s Never Tear Us Apart or Paul Kelly’s Dumb Things.
Either way, it will be a great Aussie classic from the ’80s so they can’t really go wrong.

PUBlic Choir returns to The George on Tuesday, July 24 at 7pm.
