Ms Wicks has been training as a support worker at Bathurst Seymour Centre and the staff at the organisation have appreciated her work so much that they decided to nominate her.
“We were really proud to nominate her for the Aged Care Services Australia Trainee of the Year,” CEO Terisa Ashworth said.
“She is a real asset at Bathurst Seymour Centre.”
The team found out Ms Wicks had won the title online last weeks.
As she won for her state, she now goes into the running for the national award, to be determined in the coming weeks.
The national award winners over the six categories of the awards will be announced at the ACSA National Summit in Sydney from September 3 to 5.
Ms Wicks is up against Evan Cox (Western Australia), Dipti Hamal (South Australia) and Danielle Jacobson (Tasmania).
At Bathurst Seymour Centre, Ms Wicks fulfills the role of support worker, seeing her spend a lot of time with the clients.
“I do activities with the clients, outings and support plans,” she said.
Her involvement with the facility began as a volunteer and she was later offered a traineeship.
Being part of the team and providing support to the clients means a lot to her and she takes pride in her work.
“It is just fun to be around, it’s a happy place and you learn a lot here,” Ms Wicks said.
“It’s different every day.”
