BX Talks is an initiative of the Bathurst Business Chamber, which aims to put support and help grow local businesses.
Two guest speakers were invited, sharing their knowledge on the evolution of business in the ever-changing online world.
Bathurst social media consultant Peter Sutton spoke about business identity online, where that comes from and social media.
“As small business owners, we are inherently wrapped up in what we do – it’s part of our personal identity – and our business’ identity is an extension of that,” he said.
“If you understand that business identity, then social media will be a strong, aligned fit.”
He also spoke about innovation, with a focus on how banking and social media will come together.
Mr Sutton said that BX Talks was a great event to be part of and one he can see helping a lot of people.
“From my point of view, I just want people to think. I just want them to go away and maybe question one or two things and say ‘How can I put that into practice?’ and do it with some soul,” he said.
The other guest speaker was Chris Rispin, a business ‘futurist’ and innovation expert from the Future Trends Group, with over 20 years experience working with some of the most innovative companies in the world.
Mr Rispin spoke about the fourth industrial revolution, which will transform the economy, and asked the business owners in the room to think about how much their industries had changed in the past decade.
“I wanted to show the crowd exactly where we’ve come just in the last 10 years, because when you look at what’s happened in 10 years and then you say ‘It is going to be five times faster’, you understand how big this change is going to be,” he said.
Angus Edwards, president of the business chamber, said he was pleased with the turnout and, as it was live-streamed, the audience was greater than what was in the room.
“We certainly think it was a worthwhile event and we’re looking forward to putting on another event next year,” he said.
