From Monday, November 26 until Tuesday, November 27, the Carillon will receive a new set of bells that will enhance the memorial’s sound.
The works will see the retirement of the existing 12 top octave bells inside the Carillon, which have been in place since the memorial was constructed in 1933.
In addition, a higher octave of 12 bells will be added.
“The new octave of bells will ensure the Carillon has the complete sound that it was originally intended to have,” Carillon Trust representative Richard Steele said.
The upgrades will be assisted by experts from the Taylor’s Bell Foundry in Loughborough, England.
The company manufactured the original bells for the Carillon in 1928, and have again provided the 24 new bells set to be installed.
The Carillon will be cordoned off for the duration of the works to ensure public safety while a crane tends to the memorial.
