Next weekend [November 21 and 22], some 60 locations across Bathurst will host their own garage sale as a means to entice members of the local community to grab a bargain.
Bathurst mayor Bobby Bourke said the event has been redesigned from the regular event at Mount Panorama to suit COVID-safe guidelines.
"Due to COVID-19 the decision has been made to host the sales in residents' homes or through a virtual store as part of the national Garage Sale Trail, ensuring the event will adhere to the current NSW Health restrictions," Cr Bourke said.
"All participants are given a COVID-safe toolkit featuring checklists, signage and social distancing markers and it is essential for sale hosts to provide adequate hand sanitiser for shoppers and all items are to be cleaned and sanitised prior to the sale."
Cr Bourke said the Community Garage Sale is an important annual event encouraging locals to change their habits around consumption and waste.
"The Garage Sale Trail provides an actionable and accessible way for residents to reduce their carbon footprint through the recycling and diverting useable items from landfill," he said.
"Furthermore, the garage sale promotes reuse and waste reduction behaviour with each garage sale reusing an average of 449 kilograms worth of unwanted items, which would normally have become landfill."
