Basketball has always been my love. Netball was up there but just couldn't compete, especially when it got cancelled all the time because of the weather.
Fast forward to now and I've only ever had a basketball competition cancelled once due to weather, the 2007 floods, sometimes called the Pasha Bulker Storm. The rain was pretty heavy and the floods too.
Don't get me wrong, some places are taking a beating right now, but Bathurst isn't one of them.
OTHER RECENT LETTERS TO THE EDITOR:
So explain to me how our basketball stadium was closed this Tuesday "because of the rain".
I've only recently rejoined the basketball community in Bathurst and I can tell you that, in my opinion, the stadium is not living up to her previous standard.
We've produced some pretty talented athletes over the last few years, most of which practically grew up in that stadium.
It's a place that used to be the best in the west, and pretty high up there for the entire state.
We hosted state camps and large tournament weekends.
But now, in my opinion, she's lost all her grandeur, we don't host any noteworthy camps or tournaments, you're lucky to get a court even if you are a Bathurst 'representative' and she closes for a bit of rain.
Whether it's a lack of funding or a lack of effort to maintain the stadium, something needs to be done ... for the future of our city and the future of our sport.
