Knowing this, the students at MacKillop College have rallied and brought donations of both non-perishable food and Christmas toys, which will be packed into hampers and distributed to families in need, through St Vincent de Paul.
On Friday, every student brought a donation, which were compiled by members of the school's Mercy and Justice Group for distribution to those in need.
Paul Hughes, the school's religious education coordinator said each year the school puts out a call for donations from the students.

He said the students all wear casual clothes on the day, making it a bit of fun for everyone.
"We ask students across various age groups to donate different things to the appeal. Every year the students get really involved each and each year we see the numbers of gifts and donations increasing.
He said this year the response was overwhelming.
"I'm extremely proud of school community it's testament to the type of kids we have here in our school community."
