Officers from the Chifley Police District were called to the scene near Black Springs just after 2pm on Wednesday.
Police believe a vehicle towing a trailer rolled over.
A man, believed to be aged between 35 and 40, was thrown from the front passenger seat and died at the scene.
The driver, of a similar age, was airlifted to Orange Base Hospital suffering minor injuries.
Officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit remain at the scene trying to determine the cause of the crash.
A report is also being prepared for the coroner.

EARLIER: A rescue helicopter has been called to the scene of a car crash on Abercrombie Road near Black Springs.
Five paramedic crews have been called to the scene, with two patients being treated, a NSW Ambulance spokesperson said.
The crash was reported at 1.57pm on Wednesday.
No further information is available at this stage.
