Emergency services received a triple-0 call at 2.58pm on Tuesday following reports that a blaze had ignited in a shipping container at a Corporation Avenue property.
Fire and Rescue NSW Bathurst Station Officer Sandy Collins said upon arrival crews discovered a small blaze had been ignited by a welder.
"Furniture, cushions and other household items in the shipping container had caught fire," he said.
"Luckily he [the business owner] got onto it very quickly with fire extinguishers."
Station Officer Collins said the heat from welders can quickly ignite unwanted fires and this incident should be used as a warning for other people using this type of equipment.
"When you're welding please be mindful of what's behind the surface that you're welding because the heat can conduct through," he said.
"Also, after you've finished don't just lock up and leave it, monitor it first."
